What is spaying and neutering?
Spaying is the surgical procedure of removing a female’s reproductive organs. Spaying removes your pet’s ovaries and uterus. Neutering is the version of the procedure that removes the testicles of male pets.
When should I spay or neuter my pet?
There is no special time to have your pet spayed or neutered, as the procedure can be performed anytime. The general recommendation to spay or neuter dogs is before six-and-a-half-months-old and before six-months-old in cats. At six-months-old your pets begin to reach sexual maturity and begin the heat cycle. It is best to consult with your veterinarian as the age may vary depending on your particular pet. How can I prepare my pet for spay or neuter surgery?
As their guardian you should ensure your pet is up-to-date with all their vaccinations before surgery. With all surgeries our team will perform blood tests and health exams to ensure your pet is a good candidate for surgery. This can also identify any unknown conditions in your pet that may determine if surgery is right for them.
Can older pets have spay or neuter surgery?
Yes! Older pets can still receive spay or neuter surgery. Even pets older than 7-years-old can be spayed or neutered as long as they are healthy enough for surgery and can fully recover.
